Yes, we do have kids – two girls, ages 8 and 10. We feel like what we do on YouTube and on Ask Dan & Jennifer is important and we really, really believe in it. Our children get the privilege of growing up with parents who are happy together, love their work, and who are trying to change the world. I can’t think of a better example for our kids.

We don’t discuss the specific topics, but we freely answer any questions they may have in an age appropriate way. They currently have a basic understanding of what sex is, that it’s something that grown ups share when they are in a loving relationship, they know what a condom is and where it goes, and that we will answer any questions they may have in the future without judgement. We not only believe in educating and informing the world about sex and relationships in a responsible way, we also believe in educating our children about sex and relationships responsibly.

These comments supposedly come from a good Christian. Why is it that the “good” Christians who message us are always so hateful? My grandmother is the only “good Christian” I’ve ever truly known – she never says a harsh word about anyone, but rather sees them for the growing children that they are. We openly accept you for who you are in this moment just as Jesus did. Are you truly following the teachings of Jesus and trying to be the person and the teacher that he was? Or are you simply hiding behind your religion to make your self feel better – to judge and condemn others? I believe that Hell is the place that we create for ourselves right here, right now, when we do not follow our true path. My God is not fearful, hateful, judgmental, nor a parental figure – but a figure of absolute forgiveness, acceptance and love. I am completely secure and happy in my faith and accept and love others for where they are in this moment. Can you say the same? Discussions around the circumcision of infant boys can get especially heated!

The comment below was especially strong, and negative! This woman goes on and on to tell us how understanding she is, asking us to be nice in our comments, while the whole time attacking us, our life experience, and our opinions.

Feel free to leave a comment with your thoughts, links, studies, etc. on this highly controversial topic – but please keep it more objective and positive than this woman.

• Voice your opinions, without attacking the opinions of others.
• Play nice.
• Treat others with the same respect that you wish to receive.

Just to be clear on this topic – we have personal, first hand knowledge of both circumcised and uncircumcised men. We intentionally did not get into medical discussions around the necessity for circumcision because there are literally 100’s of studies pointing in either direction. In today’s day and time there is no clear answer as to whether or not it’s medically necessary to circumcise infant boys.

Upon check in at the hospital, it’s an elective choice that you are given before the birth of your male child. They ask what you want – it is not medically required.

Our stance on circumcision has not changed. It is an elective and purely cosmetic surgery in most cases. The decision to have such a surgery should be made by an adult, not forced upon a child who is unable to express his opinions and wishes.

Typically I do not get involved in public affairs regarding politics, marriage and other topics such as the one discussed in this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDXXkBOGBiA&feature=related . I try to remind myself that each person is entitled to their own opinions, and thoughts. I believe that everyone should be permitted to make their mind up about what they feel is right or wrong. However, it is when people articulate their opinions in such a sarcastic and ignorant way that I get irritated. So in response to your video that I came across, which absolutely disgusted me, I pose a few questions to the two of you. I am curious first and foremost Jennifer if you have ever slept with a man who was uncircumcised? I am assuming you have not considering your one sided OPINION that you expressed via you tube. I am wondering if you have any children. Dan, are you circumcised or uncircumcised, I am asking because it is apparent to me that the two of you have no clue what you a re talking about! This in return, has spawned me to want to inform the two of you on how dense and ignorant you sound.
I am a very understanding being; I do believe that people have the right to express themselves, but if you are going to do it, it should be done in a manner that supports what you are saying through evidence. You stated, “You do your research…” however, you present no proof to support these claims. I am not quite sure if your statements, or opinions if you will, aggravate me more than the manner you went about it. I hope the two of you are not college grads, because if you are then you should know better than this, and should be ashamed of yourselves! If this was a paper or worth a grade you would both fail miserably. It is clear the two of you are passionate about this subject but you need to choice a healthier stance. I asked you both a couple questions in the beginning of this letter for you to reflect upon as you read the paragraph below. It is what I wrote in response to a terrible video I seen moments before I was lead to your disgusting display of opinion.
“Wow, I had no clue there was such a heated debate over circumcisions. I came across this site as I was looking up info regarding the pre-op and post-op care. My boyfriend and I have been together for 3.5 years. He is uncircumcised and the first man I have dated that has been uncircumcised. Yes it was different to me at first but I did not mind because I loved him. (We waited to have sex, until we had been together for some time.) I knew he was uncircumcised, as he had told me but had no idea what it would be like. The first time we had sex, to current, when the skin is pulled back there is a terrible smell; it is so bad that I have almost thrown up, and yes we have been to the doctors. There is nothing wrong with him. I did and still do try to look past it, because I love him. However, it has taken a toll on our sex lives. It has gotten so bad that I don’t want him to touch me with it anywhere, because I don’t want that smell on me. It is not that I am trying to be mean to him obviously, but it really is the worst smelling thing I have ever smelt. I don’t even want to have sex anymore it is that bad. The thought makes me so sick that in order for something to happen he has to shower, I have to shower, and then I shower afterwards just to make sure I don’t have the smell on me.
I understand that some many think-‘well it wasn’t that bad if you stayed with him’ but again we waited and I was in love with him, so I was not going to walk away from this wonderful man because of this; however, we are having sex about two times a month now, and I know as we are both young adults that our relationship cannot survive the rest of our lives only having sex two times a month. So we have decided to get him circumcised, so our sex life can return to (what for us is) normal. He is having surgery in two days, and I have started to question if he should really do this or not. (Not because I can deal with the situation, I am just concerned about his well-being). Thus I started to do some more research, which in return led me to this site.
I want to make clear to everyone who is reading this first and foremost; this is not a debate for or against circumcision. I am not trying to offend anyone who may be uncircumcised. I am only sharing my experience. So I do apologize if this offends anyone as it is not my intention. I believe that everyone should be able to make their own decisions, and if that means letting your child make that call then so be it.
However, I do not believe that parents should be condemned for making this call. We have a 2 year old, and when I was pregnant the plan was to have him circumcised. My boyfriend and I came to this decision together as we did not want him to share the same experience as we have. We did our research, and although we concluded being uncircumcised was more beneficial than not, we decided to have him circumcised when he was born so he would not endure the pain of circumcision if he decided he did not want it later in life. When they came to get him I cried and changed my mind, as I did not want him to go through with it at such a young age, but his father was persistent on sticking with the plan and we had it done. My point is we made a decision that we thought would be best for him. I hope that when the time comes and he does become sexually active that he makes the right decisions, and uses protection. I also hope that when he is older that he understands we made this decision t o safe him the pain of the operation later in life. We love him and only want the best for him. (After reading this site, I feel as if were damned if we do or damned if we don’t; only time will tell).
Like I said this is not meant as a debate or to offend anyone. I would be interested in hearing thoughts or even constructive criticism, but no rude or hateful remarks as I see below. I think it is uncalled for; we are adults. For anyone who is thinking about writing anything nasty in response, even though I have stated several times this is not to offend anyone I would like to say, when I had our son I went without drugs. I was in labor for 26 hours. They cut me with a scalpel from V. to A. I had the worst degree cut they can do, and yes it was the most painful thing I have ever endured. Quite frankly it sucked. I went from 100 pounds to 185 (day of delivery) back down to a hundred pounds. The body dramatically changes during pregnancy, and so after I had our son I had my breast done; to make my boyfriend happy. I only share this to give a clue on the circumstances.

Any yes he showers daily, and he also cleans properly. I have watched him. My Goal For This 90 Days

My goal for this 90 days is to lose 15 pounds – 10 of those I’ve never quite been able to lose since having my two beautiful daughters and the bonus 5 pounds because that’s my ideal incredibly sexy body weight.

I can’t believe I’m going to share this in a public forum but here goes…

Current Weight: 140 lbs

Goal Weight: 125 lbs

That means that I need to lose about 5 pounds per month. Shouldn’t be too difficult – yeah right! – If it were that easy, I would have lost that first 10 pounds long ago. My biggest challenge will be eating consistently – I eat pretty healthy, but then I’ll go on a carb kick for a week and gain 5 pounds – yes, 5 pounds! Carbs are really bad for me personally so I really have to watch it. I don’t believe in dieting and do I believe we all have different body chemistry and eating requirements. Some people need a lot of carbs to feel good, others need meat, others feel best as vegetarians  - me, I need lots of vegetables and protein. I could never be a total vegetarian – especially when I’m working out, I literally crave protein!

So my eating goal for this 90 days is to create new eating habits, to retrain my mind to make healthy choices more often than not, and to allow myself 1 free day per week to satisfy those cravings that will inevitably show up…

The First Two Weeks

The first two weeks were really tough. I found muscles that I didn’t even know I had. But I survived and feel much better for it. I’m getting stronger every day! The workouts are getting easier and I’m able to complete more and more each day.

The P90 program basically alternates between two workouts (approximately 35 minutes each) - one day of weights/bands and one day of toning/cardio. I love the fact that these are short workouts that work every area of your body rather than a separate workout for each muscle group.

Also, there are two dvds – level 1-2 for beginners and then level 3-4 for more advanced excercises. I started with level 1-2 and lets just say that it was the right choice.

A Quick Note On Supplements

Oh, one more thing – they strongly recommend taking their special formula of supplements to increase metabolism and speed up recovery time.

I’ve never liked fitness supplements because I have no intentions of taking them for life and I feel that they will jack up my metabolism above normal so that when I stop taking the supplements, I will gain weight back and maybe even lose some muscle (even if I don’t eat differently).

Similar to certain diets that require a drastic change in what you eat – they all work short term, but then when you start eating normally (or stop taking the supplements), you typically gain the weight right back…

This is just my personal opinion, not based in any fact, but because they do recommend the supplements I wanted to be completely honest and tell that I’m not taking them.

Day 1 – The “Circuit” Workout

The “circuit” program consists of 3 set of different weight exercises – if you don’t have dumbbells, you can use bands – they demonstrate how to use either one. The grand irony is that when we moved in October, I sold a full set of dumbbells because I never used them! So for now I’m using bands – it’s a little awkward because the range of motion is not the same and the weight distribution gets more difficult toward the top of the exercise.

I really like this program because each set uses a different exercise to work chest, back, shoulders, biceps, triceps and leg. You work each muscle group in each set, but with a slightly different range of motion. I personally would get really bored if I had to do the same exercise 3 times – so with this one, I don’t get bored.

Oh, and I hope you like push ups! You’ll get to do them a lot with this program… I was really nervous about that at first because on day one – I could do exactly 3 push ups on my knees – not even full push ups! But I’m getting stronger every day – yea!!! Now, at the end of 2 weeks, I can do 8 reps (still on my knees) for three sets of each type of push up – regular, fly, and close in (can’t remember what they’re called).

Day 2 – The “Sweat” Workout

The “sweat” workout is a low impact, yet very effect cardio and toning workout. It’s not all about how fast you can go or how high you can get your heart rate. This workout can be as easy or as tough as you want to make it. It combines the best of power yoga, low impact aerobics, and even a little kick boxing. Once again, the workout is broken down into 3 segments – yoga (warm up), low impact aerobics (kneed lifts, jumping jacks, and ‘x’ work which you’ll have to watch the video to see), and kick boxing (controlled kicks and punches). I love the kick boxing – I was a huge fan of Tae Bo back in the day.

This workout helped me to realize just how out of shape I really am!!!

Something very few people know about me is that I was a fitness instructor (before kids ), so I’m thinking piece of cake – never mind the fact that I haven’t worked out seriously in more than 5 years… I was huffing and puffing before the first set was complete!

As with the “circuit”, this gets easier every day, but I do find that on low energy days, I have more trouble with this workout – not sure why – but I just lower the intensity on those days and keep going.

And Just When I Thought I Was Finished – The 100 Ab Ripper!

One very special little bonus on “sweat” days in the 100 Ab Ripper – and they mean it! It’s 10 reps of 10 different ab exercises. On day one, I couldn’t do half of them, but by the 3rd work out, I was starting to get the hang of it. I still have to modify the exercises where my legs are extended, but I’ll be there very soon…

Oh, and get this – the whole routine takes something like 4 minutes! No more excused not to do abs!

And Finally Day 7 – REST!

And on the 7th day there was rest! For the P90 program, you work out for 6 straight days and then rest for 1 day.

My Biggest Challenge

OK, I have a confession to make. In week one, I took a break mid-week. It was more of a scheduling conflict than anything else – I didn’t allow myself enough time in the morning to work out before going to an appointment and then the rest of day happened!

And about the middle of week two, I did the same thing again – sort of… It’s spring break for my kids, so I promised them that we would go on a long walk/scooter ride to Sonic for lunch (don’t get started – I know it’s not real food – besides, I only had a limeade!). Once again, I didn’t leave myself enough time to work out and by the time we got back I was too tired – did I mention that our walk to Sonic is 5 miles round trip. Given the long walk, I’m not sure if I really count this is a rest day but the fact remains that I skipped a workout…

My biggest challenge has been schedule – I learned from these two mistakes that I have to work out first thing in the morning before anything else gets in the way – otherwise I’m just setting myself up to fail. Have you heard of positive affirmations? How about visualization? You’re about to see some of our personal ones…

Today I’m going to share something a little personal, something that we both enjoy. We’re putting this out there, as always, with the intent that it will help others find inspiration, hope, joy etc.

The purpose of this blog is to share more of our raw ideas, thoughts, insights, passions, blah, blah. Not just the Love & Sex variety (as on Ask Dan and Jennifer) or personal development / spirituality (as on Today Is That Day), or even the love and respect animals message from our Help Doggies Foundation.

You may have seen our post on January 1st where we shared our goals for the year, including the results of our Passion Test that we take every January 1st.

And this much deeper and more profound post sharing our our new level of real clarity with our vision and our mission, we shared this with you as well.

Today we’re sharing with you the visual affirmations we created for ourselves use this January, based on our Passion Test and our shared goals and vision. Think of this as the “visual representation” of our Passion test. Enjoy:

So how did we do it, and what specifically does one with a pretty picture that has inspirational writing on it?

How we created it: it started with an extensive search on iStockPhoto for ‘just the right image’ and a  $10 download for the right size; followed by again extended search for the right font that ’spoke to us’.

Then getting the core affirmations formed ‘just right’, with just the right shading, etc. so it’s actually readable and appealing. Finally, upload to CVS online for photo quality prints, which we then placed in photo phrames throughout our home.

What we do with it: the purpose of these visuzliations is to actually see them throughout the day, both consciously and unconsciously, so you’re alwasy being reminded of your goals. So they’re all over the house.

This is just to give you some ideas from what we do, in case they help you in your own life.

But in the meantime… As part of our “more” raw food plan for the first part of the year, we just purchased our first juicer, a.k.a. a “juice extractor”.

For our first ever juicer we went with the Breville JE95XL Two-Speed Juice Fountain Plus. After a bunch of research, this was the best value for a first juicer: good quality, fairly low cost for a good juicer. Here’s the new juicer beast – 13,000 (yes, thirteen thousand) RPM! Not to be messed with.

In fact, we’re in a bit of a rush to head out this afternoon, but I have a serious fresh squeezed orange juice craving. Stand back, I’m firing up the juicer…

Over the past couple of weeks, really since the beginning of the year, I’ve spent much time in deep introspection. Granted I lean to the cerebral and tend to “ponder” a lot, but this was different, much more introspective. 

There’s a quote I like, “be the change you want to see in the world” – which is so profound. Indeed, don’t just talk about the probelm, BE the solution. And that’s exactly what we’re doing…

Consider this: We don’t have “web traffic” or tens of thousands of “pageviews” or “unique visitors” per day to our website(s) and videos. In actuality, we have tens of thousands of real PEOPLE, each with his/her own problems, concerns, fears, dreams, hopes, aspirations, seeking answers.

Not pageviews – PEOPLE.

And it is our goal, and our humbling responsibility, to help them find that answer, that hope, in whatever way we can.

FACT: We live today in the most enlightened time in human history. And that makes today the most flexible time in history for even more change, acceptance, true evolution as a society. 

Our Vision: Help people find peace, joy and happiness in their lives and their relationships, and to live in harmony with our ever loyal four legged friends. 

Our Mission: BE the change we want to see in the world. 

Our Goals: Impact 10’s of Millions of Lives every month in a healthy and positive way. Create massive change in the world – one life at a time.

So here’s how our plan is taking shape, and how it’s being executed. 

Ask Dan and Jennifer – Love & Sex Advice and So Much More… 

 You’re probably familiar with Ask Dan and Jennifer and our helpful, non-judgmental approach to all topics Love & Sex.

We’re preparing to launch our new Sex Honesty Campaign through which we’ll challenge our society to be open and honest about sex and sexuality, to stop hiding from our sexual nature and to stop hiding the facts from our children and ourselves. 

We need to have the facts, the information, the knowledge so we can all make educated, smart choices. The current state of sex education is largely an argument for why ignorance is better… and we strongly disagree. In the broad history of mankind, rarely (if ever) can you find an example where ignorance has been the  solution… Ignorance is generally a reason for gross failure and stupidity. 

And from education and understanding also comes acceptance. It’s time to move on from antiquated, naive notions about relationships and sex. 

Our Help Doggies Foundation

 Help Doggies is an effort we kicked off only a couple weeks ago, and it’s still in the very early stages.

Our Vision: Love and a chance at life for ALL our four legged animal friends. 0% kill rate – period.

Our Mission: To help man become dog’s best friend through education, training, and financial assistance. It’s time.

Today Is That Day – Our New Personal Evolution Site

 Personal development / growth / evolution is another passion of ours. Today Is That Day (currently in transition - see the Alpha development site here) is our new Personal Evolution site.

We’re actually taking over  the site from a good friend, so it’ll be a great head start to making a powerful impact in people’s lives. Currently we’re busy DanAndJennifer-izing it, which means lots of bling and sparkly things, our “edge” that you all know and love. The new site should be live in a week or so.

We have great plans…

including our Random Acts of Kindness campaign where we’ll be leading the charge to spread love, understanding, compassion, and kindness wordlwide. Again, by impacting one life at a time, which in turn will impact countless others.

Don’t like how people treat other people? Be the one who lets someone ahead in line when they’re in a hurry, let a fellow driver merge in front of you in traffic, hold the door for someone, smile and say hello – all for no reason other than because you can and it will brighten someone’s day. 

That’s the core message: don’t just talk about the probelm, BE the solution. Be the change you want to see in your world.

How Are You Living Your Passion?

“What is passion anyway?” Think of it as your gift to the world… what you’re here to do. At least that’s my take.

If you aren’t sure that you are living your passion, if you live every day with some margin of doubt or boredom… if you don’t wake up in the morning excited to get out of bed and DO, get the Passion Test book. This book literally changed our lives. It’s short, easy, and cheap: no excuses. It’s a very simple process to help you identify what your true passion inlife is. We do this Passion Test together on January 1st of each new year.

And amazingly, our passions are getting more and more in sync each year. This year was truly transformative and we are both very, very, very excited about what’s coming…
